Abstract

Pithecia milleri is categorized as Data Deficient by the IUCN, it is present in Colombia and Ecuador, western Amazonian basin, but few is known on its distribution limits in Colombia. Field observations were recorded ad libitum between 2007 and 2015. We carried out a field expedition in the mid Caquetá River and its tributaries in the departments of Caquetá and Putumayo. We made a review of records on data bases of Global Biodiversity Information Facility, Arctos, VertNet and the digital catalogues of mammals of the Instituto de Ciencias Naturales of Universidad Nacional de Colombia, the Field Museum of Natural History of Chicago, the American Museum of Natural History and the Zoology Museum of Michigan University. In addition, we reviewed specimens of the genera in different collections in the country. We obtained 77 records for the species. Its distribution was enlarged to the east to Guaquirá Creek and the altitudinal range was extended to 1,100 m a.s.l. Based on this review and our knowledge of the region it is necessary to, 1) explore the Caguán River and its interfluve with the Yarí River, to solve the question on the presence or not of P. milleri to the east of the Caguán River, 2) an exhaustive survey on the Guaquirá River and Nonomaní Creek to determine the contact region between P. milleri and P. hirsuta, and 3) explore the Guaviare department to establish the northeastern limit of the distribution of P. milleri
